Historical background informations about Berlin
It appears to be an ironical factor that about 800 years ago Berlin was, as it was again after the 2nd World War, a divided city. There was a small trading town on an islaland on the River Spree called cöln and a river bank settement called Berlin. The two rival cities were first able to reach agreement on a joint magistrate in 1307. Due to the brilliant politics of the Great Elector (reigned from 1640-1688), Berlin was soon to experience a new boom,particularly because of Huguenot immigrants (French protestannts), who had an immense influense on Berlin life.
