Historical background informations about Berlin

It appears to be an ironical factor that about 800 years ago Berlin was, as it was again after the 2nd World War, a divided city. There was a small trading town on an islaland on the River Spree called cöln and a river bank settement called Berlin. Due to the brilliant politics of the Great Elector (reigned from 1640-1688), Berlin was soon to experience a new boom,particularly because of Huguenot immigrants (French protestannts), who had an immense influense on Berlin life. In1701 the successor of the Great Elector, Frederick 111,crownrd himseelf King in Prussia in Königsberg and became King Friderick 1.
